The Dutch radio listening figures for February/March 2007 were published this morning by resarch bureau Intomart GfK. They show a big drop in audience share Radio 2, but it remains market leader. Sky Radio has passed the 10 percent mark, and its market share of 10.2% is the largest for several years. It is now within striking distance of claiming back the number one slot amongst the commercial stations, just 0.4% behind Radio 538. It was a good month for Veronica, which has seen its share climb to 5.7%, its highest ever. But Radio 10 Gold, despite losing its most popular DJ’s in budget cuts during the survey period, actually made a slight gain. That, of course, is with the benefit of the mediumwave transmitter which it said it planned to switch off in April. So far, it’s still on the air.
Another significant climber is Radio 5, which has increased its share from 1.4 to 1.7%, nearly double what it typically got in the old days of Radio 747. But Arrow Classic Rock, also on mediumwave, has slumped further to 1.4%. It had been as high as 2.1%, so the loss of one third of its reach must be a concern. Its sister station Arrow Jazz FM also lost listeners.
There’s speculation about the future of Radio 538, which is reported to be on the verge of being sold to RTL Nederland. What will happen to the rest of Talpa’s radio stations, including those in Belgium and Denmark, isn’t clear.
The market shares in percent (Jan/Feb figures in brackets) were as follows:
1. Radio 2* 11.5 (13.4)
2. Radio 538 10.6 (10.5)
